Approach/Intro:
This amazing castle should definitely get more attention than it currently has. Located on the top of a low-lying Apennines mountain, the approach can be quite difficult if you are walking or biking to this destination. The approach to the castle is beautiful though, as you will pass through the traditional Italian countryside with the castle looming on the rocks above you.
Castle:
The castle itself is oriented up on a high area of rocks, making it quite artistic. As you enter the castle, the first impression will likely be that there is a high level of reality in how the Castle is decorated. Each room has a realistic theme and is liberally decorated with armor, art, and realistic furnishings. There is not a lot of signage to explain what you may be seeing. However, basically the entire castle is open for exploration. Of the many castles I have visited throughout the UK and Europe, I would rank this as one of the best in terms of openness and excellence in time-appropriate decorations. This is definitely a must-see sight if you are visiting the area!
Visitor Information:
The castle is only open on weekends and holidays unless you call ahead and set up a tour. Here are the standard operating hours (NOTE, the final time listed is the final time you will be allowed entry, not actually when the castle closes):

These hours apply to the months of April to October.

Nice place, the tour is only in Italian...
Amazing
The Dark middle ages !
The fortress is beautiful, the place where it is located is very suggestive, you can enjoy a beautiful panorama, it is really worth a visit. We arrived by motorbike along a very small and treacherous road that took us to the car park below the Rocca. The only flaw, the guide, who I think was one of the owners who was probably in "a lot of hurry" and the photos were taken on the fly!!!!! he didn't leave us the necessary time to listen to the story and take photos inside the Rock.
There were 2 possibilities, either you listened to the guide or took photos, in the moments that we stopped to observe the rooms and the views offered by the tower, we lost the group and consequently the story. For the rest I recommend a visit.
The Rocca d'Olgisio is the most beautiful castle in the province of Piacenza and Parma, one of the oldest and most evocative fortified complexes in the Piacenza area. When you visit this site it feels like going back in time, history and environment are protagonists and unique here. I highly recommend the visit.
Located on a rocky cliff, mainly of sandstone, which separates Val Tidone from Val Chiarone in the municipality of Pianello Val Tidone (PC), this fortress represents a beautiful example of medieval fortification on which a whole series of of architectural structures that have increased its charm. Despite the damage caused during World War II by clashes between the partisans and German troops, the fortress is in excellent condition, with well-maintained exteriors. The panorama that can be enjoyed over the valleys below is splendid. I highly recommend the property to periodically clean the internal rooms, which are currently quite dusty.
Unfortunately, the loss of the original interior furnishings deprives us of part of the charm inherent in the structure, which is only partially mitigated by the furnishings currently present.
However, I think this castle is absolutely worth visiting.
Perhaps seeing the last rays of sunshine of the season and as there is still a pleasant temperature, we decide to take advantage of the weather for a trip out of town and the choice falls on a destination that I have been aiming for for a while... To get there you enter the town of Pianello Val Tidone and following the easy signs, you leave the town and enter a road surrounded by vineyards; the road is simple because you just have to follow it and the surface will be new at the end of October 2023. Once you arrive in front of the gate you enter and find parking (signposted) in the property's woods; the last part can be tackled on foot with a steep climb but not excessively long and therefore not tiring for those without particular problems.
The mandatory guided tour costs 10.00 euros and shows how much it is possible to see given that the property inhabits part of the castle. The castle, renovated in the last 40 years or so, still bears the signs of attacks from the Second World War, but work began during the sixth century AD.
However, there are details and curiosities that deserve to be heard and seen, in addition to the view that can be enjoyed from the guard's walkway.
I recommend it to be combined with an organized tour with other attractions as the visit lasts about 1 hour.
At the entrance you can buy water and drinks as well as some souvenirs or books.
